Vardesenteret and Pusterommet

Vardesenteret and Pusterommet is a meeting place for cancer patients and their next of kin. The centre is a collaboration between St. Olavs hospital, the Norwegian Cancer Society and AKTIV Against Cancer.

Life after a cancer diagnosis is different than it was before, and for many this new situation leads to a need for more information, knowledge and someone to share experiences with.

We offer a variety of courses and activities aiming to improve your wellbeing and ability to cope with a challenging situation. Several acitivities are available in a digital format, generally in Norwegian, but individual conversations can also be booked in English. We also arrange weekly hikes, mini concerts and various craft events. Additionally, we arrange several activities and meetings for children and adolescents who are affected by cancer.

You are free to use the center as you wish, whether you want to attend a course, book a workout, talk with other people in the same situation as yourself, or just sit down with a cup of coffee.

At Vardesenteret you are offered support,  guidance and qualified information in conversation with professionals and volunteers, most of whom speak English. You can also have a chat with other patients and next of kin, or relax by the fire place. The centre is a different waiting room, where you can find peace and companionship.

Pusterommet is an exercise facility for cancer patients. All activities here are led by experienced physiotherapists or other professionals. Physical activity is a key part of your treatment and rehabilitation, and at Pusterommet you can get the guidance and motivation you need to adapt exercise to your need, whether you want individual workouts or prefer to participate in a group class. No foreknowledge is needed to use Pusterommet, however please note that referral from a doctor is needed.

All activities at Vardesenteret are free of charge. For enrolment at Pusterommet you pay a user fee which is included in your exemption card for public health services.
