The Department of Thoracic and Occupational Medicine and Orkdal Internal Medicine consists of three divisions: the Department of Respiratory Medicine, the Department of Occupational Medicine, and the Internal Medicine Department at Orkdal Hospital.

The Department of Respiratory Medicine includes inpatient units, an outpatient clinic, a day unit, and a monitoring unit. The majority of patients are treated for COPD/emphysema, lung infections, asthma, and lung cancer.

The Department of Occupational Medicine operates an outpatient clinic and is also involved in education and research. Patients are assessed for work-related diseases, including occupational cancers, solvent-induced damage, asbestos-related diseases, and occupational asthma.

The Internal Medicine Department at Orkdal is a general internal medicine unit. It has two inpatient wards, a cardiology clinic, a pulmonary clinic, a dermatology clinic offering light therapy, and a general outpatient clinic that provides support for both surgery, orthopaedics, and internal medicine.

The Department of Radiology at St. Olav's Hospital provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging services, including X-ray (with mammography and fluoroscopy), MRI, CT, PET-CT, PET-MRI, angiography/intervention, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine.

The department is located across several buildings at Øya in Trondheim, as well as at Orkdal Hospital, Røros Hospital, and in Oppdal and Fosen.

The Department of Mental Health – General, Rehabilitation, and Security offers assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services. The treatment options include acute care, outpatient services, day treatment, and inpatient services.

As a general practice, our patients receive care at a local community psychiatric centre (for adults) following a referral from their GP. In addition, a specialised hospital service is available for those in need of more complex treatment options.

The Neurology Department consists of the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology.

Department of Neurosurgery

The Department of Neurosurgery at St. Olavs Hospital is one of the country's four specialist departments in the field of neurosurgery, treating patients from all over Central Norway and, in some cases, from other regions of the country.

With expertise in several subfields of neurosurgery, the department is particularly renowned for its work in tumour surgery and vascular surgery. It also houses a national competence service for the surgical treatment of spinal and neck disorders.

Department of Neurology

The field of neurology covers organic diseases and functional disorders of the central nervous system, peripheral nerves, and muscles. As a medical specialty, neurology focuses on the diagnosis, medical treatment, and rehabilitation of patients within these diagnostic categories.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology comprises the Maternity Department and the Gynaecology Department.

Maternity Department

The Maternity Department is one of the largest in the country, handling approximately 3,700 births annually. It provides both local and regional services to meet the needs of this patient group.

Gynaecology Department

Our Gynaecology Department offers comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services. We specialise in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with a wide range of gynaecological conditions.

Orkdal Hospital

Orkdal Hospital is located south of the Orkanger town centre, in Orkland Municipality, approximately 45 km southwest of Trondheim. Orkdal Hospital is an integrated part of St. Olavs Hospital and serves as the emergency medical service centre for the municipalities of Orkland, Skaun, Rennebu, Rindal, Surnadal, Heim, Hitra, and Frøya.

Røros Hospital is located at Henrik Grønnsvei 24, in the centre of Røros. From Trondheim, you can reach it by train, bus, or car, with the journey taking approximately 2 hours.
